First Loose Tooth!

I was out of town a lot of the first two weeks of May for work. During the second week, on a phone call Tannah announced that she had a loose tooth. Wei-Yand confirmed this for me. I still wasn't prepared to come home to find a very loose tooth and a grown-up tooth coming in behind her baby teeth. I told her to get to wiggling that tooth so her new tooth would have room to come in.

She wiggled like a champ and also let me push on it some. After a few days and a particularly big push from me, I felt the tooth give way. I told her that one more pull and it would come out, and I was right.

Tannah lost her first tooth on May 17, 2016.

My parents had bought a tooth container as a souvenir from France, so we used that to leave her tooth for the Tooth Fairy.

 Unfortunately, it's hard to be a twin some times. Harper was devastated that she "came out of my belly first," but Tannah lost the first tooth. Poor baby.

Fortunately, the Tooth Fairy left Harper a note telling her that she'd be visiting soon, and that cheered her up.

First Day of 3's Preschool

Today marked a new chapter in the girls' lives: preschool! Tannah has been very excited about the idea of going to school, while Harper has been a little more nervous. She would always say no if someone asked her if she was excited for preschool. We went to their school's open house two weeks ago, and last week we went to see their classroom and spend some time with their teacher, Miss Claire.

The girls were all ready to go this morning.

Since it was their first day, they only went for an hour, and Wei-Yand and I stayed with them. We started with an art project in which the parents painted the kids' hands and made handprints on this.

I just about lost it when I read the poem, but I could tell that Harper was really nervous, and I didn't want to cry and upset her. After the craft we did a scavenger hunt to find things in their room, then the kids had circle time to discuss what they found while the parents "matted" the artwork. Tannah was very involved in the discussion and liked to point out where things were located. Harper was pretty quiet. She saw a little boy laying down next to her, so she lied down as well. The teacher asked them both to sit up, and Harper complied right away. I was very proud of how well they listened to their teacher.

After completing the craft, the parents left the room so the kids could read a story and sing songs. Both girls were looking at me with huge eyes while I walked out the door, and Harper apparently cried a little when we left, but was ok after that. On the way to daycare, I asked the girls about the book they read and the songs they sang, and they both said the book was about a mouse, but they didn't like it because they were nervous. They also sang a song about Jesus, which upon further questioning, I think was "Jesus Loves Me".

I'm so excited to watch them learn and grow, and I know they'll get used to preschool quickly and soon they'll love it!

First Injury

We made it almost two years without an injury, which I suppose is a pretty big accomplishment when you have two little monkeys who love to run, jump, and climb.

We took the girls to the outlet mall yesterday.  Let's just say that shopping is not their favorite activity these days.  They refuse to sit in the stroller for more than about five minutes, and they would prefer to run through stores pulling clothes off of shelves and hiding in the clothing racks.  Not that this has ever happened.

Since we were doing the best we could to contain the girls while in the stores, we let them run around to burn off some of their (seemingly endless) energy.  It was lots of fun until Tannah tripped.  She's a tough little girl, but her face did get a little scraped up, and she has a big goose egg on her forehead.

Not to be out done, Harper immediately began asking for lotion for her owie, which is a place where she got a (very small, teeny, tiny) scrape on her wrist about a week ago:)

Utensils

We used to rely on daycare to guide us as to when we should introduce new things with the girls.  Since they're home with Wei-Yand now, we've kind of been winging it.  I decided it was time for the girls to start trying to use spoons, so we started with applesauce.  I was pretty impressed with how well they did.



Shortly thereafter, I decided to try plates and forks.  They really like using forks and are pretty good at it, but they often end up picking up their plates and dumping it on their trays.

Pigtails!

Although the girls were born with quite a bit of hair, it has been pretty slow to grow.  It's finally started to take off, and true to form, the girls' hair is growing in quite differently. 

Harper's hair is shorter in front and long in the back.  It's kind of curly as well.  It's nice because it doesn't get in her eyes.

Tannah's hair is long on top and short in the back.  I think she must still rub her head while she sleeps.  Her hair is so long in front that it's been getting in her eyes.  I bought the girls some adorable clips, but they keep them in for about three minutes before tearing them out and smiling at me while they drop them on the floor. 

Today I decided to take a new approach, and Tannah ended up rocking the Pebbles Flinstone look.  It kept the hair out of her eyes, and she looked pretty adorable.  In the pictures below, she selected the headband.



Harper ripped her top pony out pretty much as soon as I put it in, but her hair is long enough for pigtails!  Eeep!  They were so cute, she may be in pigtails until she graduates from high school:)

Lots of Firsts

The girls are at an exciting age where we have lots of "firsts" happening.  I feel like I need to be very good about documenting everything because I'm still pretty tired all the time, so the chance of me remembering exact (or even approximate)dates in a month or a year is pretty unlikely.

The girls have both really been enjoying swimming lessons.  Unfortunately, we don't have any pictures because we're both in the water with the girls, but we sing songs, and the girls splash around in the pool.  I was very pleased that Tannah hasn't had any problems whatsoever.  This might be because we get to go in the small pool, which is very well heated:)

Tannah's first tooth (bottom front left) arrived on October 28.  Tooth number two arrived the next day.  She actually handled the teething process very well.  We didn't even notice that anything new was going on until I spotted the tooth in her mouth.  Let's hope that trend continues for future teething times.  I think I might see two teeth getting ready to pop through Harper's gums, but I can't be certain quite yet.

Please excuse the dirty face and bib.  She was in the middle of eating her carrots.

On Friday night, I was in the kitchen and Wei-Yand was playing with the girls, when he called out, "is she crawling"?  I ran into the living room, and while I don't know if we can quite consider it crawling yet, Tannah was scooting herself across the floor by pulling her legs up underneath her body and lunging forward.  In just the past few days, she's getting faster and starting to get up on all fours.  Mobile babies are going to create all sorts of new (but fun!) challenges for us.  We're just waiting for the day that Harper starts crawling and they go in opposite directions.  we put our baby gate up by our stairs a few weeks ago, so we're prepared for the inevitable.

Harper has surpassed Tannah as our "good sleeper".  She has been sleeping through the night 2-3 nights each week, while Tannah is still getting up at least once every night.

Harper is also our "good eater".  She'll eat anything we give her, and it's so adorable to see her open her mouth when she's ready to eat.  Tannah is a little pickier, but loves to feed herself.  The trick is finding food that is soft enough for her to actually bite but that doesn't turn to mush when she grabs it.
