BBQ's and Bluegrass

We took the girls to a small local festival (party? Festival seems like too big of a word for this event:). It was small, but it was really nice. Several local restaurants were selling food and there was a stage with live music. The girls had a great time.

Apparently, they love to drink out of water bottles. Harper's has it down. Tannah still likes to put the entire bottle opening in her mouth. Fortunately, it was hot, so a little (or a lot) of water spilled didn't matter.

The girls really seemed to enjoy the BBQ, but they really got excited when I pulled out their fruit chews:)

After dinner we took the girls over to the fountain for the first time this year. It was getting late, and Harper just wanted to snuggle. Tannah went right over to the water, pulled out her pony tails, tilted her head back and proclaimed "I'm rinsing":) Too adorable.

My attempt to get the girls to sit together for a picture.  Not so much:)

Water Table

The girls got a water table for their birthday from Grandma and Grandpa. They think it's the coolest thing. They end up getting drenched because they love to pour water on themselves, but they have so much fun:)

The day that I set it up, both girls fell asleep briefly in the car while running errands in the morning. Tannah thought that short nap was enough for the day, so instead of risk her waking Harper (who needs her naps), Tannah got to stay up that day.

We have some really nice neighbors. They came over to visit, and their five year old daughter remembered how much the girls love Cozy Coups (we don't have one), so she brought theirs over for the girls to play with it.

She also let Tannah try out her scooter.

Harper took a three hour nap without Tannah there to wake her up, but she got to join in the fun when she woke up.

Two Year Pictures

We were fortunate to have a photo session with Amanda Richards, one of my friends from elementary/middle/high school last month. She takes gorgeous pictures, and I've wanted her to take pictures of the girls since before they were even born. I'm happy that we're close enough now to make that happen.

Her website is here. She's fantastic!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing moms in my life and a special wish that for those desperately wanting, but still waiting to become moms. I hope that everyone who wants it gets to know the joy that I feel on a daily basis.

2 Years and 1 Month

I think 2 is about the time when you stop referring to your childrens' age in months, so the girls are 2 years and 1 month.

At 2 years 1 month:

  •  The girls love books, their blankies, their water table, and slides.
  • They are speaking in 4-5 word sentences and love to name things. We understand most of what they say, but even if we understand the words, we sometimes have to decipher the full meaning.  For example, when Harper says, "I sit down", she means "I want to sit on your lap, mommy:)".
  • They have strong opinions on what they want - "no purple shoes mama, I want wear boots".
  • They love meat loaf, yogurt, goldfish crackers, green beans, and pretty much all fruit.
  • They drink about three sippy cups of milk per day.
  • They wear size 2T shirts and a mixture of 18-24 and 2T pants. They wear size 5 diapers and size 6 shoes.
  • They love shoes and are very particular about which ones they wear.  I bought them some adorable, but not the most supportive, cowboy boots for their two year pictures, and they ask to wear them pretty much every day.
  • They are so sweet with each other.  Tannah has a tendency to melt down at the drop of a hat, and Harper will go over and pat her back and say "it's ok" when Tannah is having a crying fit.
  • They love music, dancing, and nursery rhymes.  They love to sing EIEIO and the ABC's.
  • They give fantastic hugs and kisses.
  • They sleep from about  7:30 until 7, and they take one nap.
  • They are moving up to the Toddler room at daycare this week, and they love to tell us the names of all of their friends at school.

  • They bring such joy to my life. If I'm having a rough day, a smile or a giggle from them is sure to turn things around. I am the luckiest.

    Family Birthday Party

Since we were on vacation the week before the girls' birthday, we had a small party one night.  I bought balloons and cake during the girls nap. Tannah has only had cake a couple of times, but she was so excited for it.  She kept yelling, "cake, cake, cake!"  It seriously cracked me up.  They both went right to town when we gave them a piece.

I think we were singing in this next one.

    Pool Time

After some minor hesitation at the beginning of the week, the girls soon figured out that they LOVE the pool. They loved floating, jumping in from a sitting position, playing motorboat, motorboat, and "swimming":)  They had huge smiles on their faces every time we went in the pool.  And that put a huge smile on my face.
