Tube Removal

When the girls got their tubes put in their ears in March of 2012, we were told that they would probably fall out on their own within 6 months to a year. Fast-forward three years, and Tannah's tubes just recently came out, and Harper's appeared to still be in her ear drum, which meant that she required surgery to remove the tubes.

Harper specifically requested that Grandma and Grandpa come support her, so the whole family spent the morning at our Hospital's Outpatient Surgery location.

She had been really brave leading up to the surgery, but when we took her back to the room and she saw the hospital gown, she got really scared and started to cry:(. We got her into the gown, but she flat out refused to put her finger in the pulse ox monitor.

Things started to look up a little bit when the nurses mentioned that they had wagons, which we could use to pull her through the halls.

 

Then it got even better when they mentioned that they had Nabi tablets and that Harper could play with one.

 



She happily played Angry Birds and listened to music until it was time for her surgery. The doctor even let her take the tablet into surgery with her, so she didn't protest at all when they pulled her away in her wagon.

She was still asleep when they brought her back to the room. The nurses replaced the hospital bed with a recliner, so I held her until she woke up. I had been warned that she would likely cry and be grumpy, but she had no problems. She drank a can of apple juice in about 10 seconds, ate an orange popsicle, and was up looking for her clothes because she was ready to go home.

Everyone else was ready as well because the doctor was running behind and I had told everyone that I didn't think anyone should eat that morning because Harper couldn't eat before the surgery. We were all really hungry by the time we made it home!

Shrek Jr.

At work one day, I saw a poster for Shrek Jr., a musical being put on by a local group comprised of kids from kindergarten through 12th grade. The girls watched Shrek once on a rainy day at Darcy's and are always asking to watch it again (which I have refused because I think some of the humor is too old for them). I figured that this musical would be a great introduction for them because they would be really excited to see it. I love, love, love, musical theater (really, all theater), so I was really hoping the girls would love it.

They did not disappoint. They really enjoyed the show (and really enjoyed the popcorn and cupcakes I bought for them during intermission).

 

When we got into the theater, Tannah immediately noticed this green flag that a little girl sitting next to us was holding. I told her I would look into getting her one after the show. The man who runs this theater group gave an introduction and mentioned the "freak flags", that they were on sale because it was the last performance, that the kids could wave them during a song in the second act, and that performers would be signing them after the show. I was sold and bought two during intermission.

 

Tannah proudly waved hers during the song "Let Your Freak Flag Fly". I had to calm her waving down a few times so she wouldn't whack the man sitting in front of us:). After the show, the characters were outside the theater signing the flags. The girls immediately said that they wanted the Dragon to sign their flags. They also got Fiona, Donkey, and a few other characters. Shrek signed Tannah's flag, but he made Harper nervous, so she didn't give him her flag. She loved Donkey though. It was such a fun afternoon! I can't wait to bring them to more shows in the future.

Tubes

We hit the three year anniversary of when the girls got their tubes this month. We've been going every few months for tube checks, and this time Tannah's had finally come out of her ear drums. The ENT was able to remove them from her ear in his office. It was a little uncomfortable, and she was very brave, so we stopped for ice cream on the way home to celebrate her.

Harper's tubes are still in her ear drums, so she's going to have to have surgery next week to have them removed. Hopefully that surgery will be as easy as getting them put in was.

 

Tannah has some fluid in her ears again, so she may need another set of tubes. We have to go back next month to check again, so fingers crossed!

Bowling

I picked up this bowling set on a cold weekend, and we had some indoor fun.

Kinetic Sand

The girls got some kinetic sand for Christmas, and we finally opened it up to play one weekend when it was still too cold to go outside. They girls thought it was so much fun!

Three Years and Eleven Months!

One month away from four, and these two are amazing little people!

At three years and eleven months:

 

 The girls love their suitcases and sleeping bags. They love travelling so they can bring those.

Tannah still almost always asks to watch Sheriff Callie, but Harper generally asks for Dinosaur Train or Daniel Tiger.

They love their stuffed animals/dolls and are developing quite the collection.

The girls love to color and paint. Tannah would probably color all day long if she could.

They wear size 4-5T shirts and pants. They wear size 10 shoes.

They sleep from about 8:30 until 7 and nap for about 45 minutes. On the weekends, they usually don't nap anymore.

They love their blankies and puppies and night lights. Tannah uses a twilight turtle and a Hello Kitty light up toy, and Harper has a lightning bug and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle light up toy. Harper has been sleeping with Dale ever since we got back from Disney.

They love to read, and they love going to the library. The most requested book over the last month was Stand Tall Molly Lou Mellon.

They are enjoying the melting puddles left behind by the melting snow.

 They keep asking when we're going to go back to Disney World.

They still "tell" me a question every night, and they've taken to asking for snuggles as well.

It sometimes seems like four years have gone by in a flash, but I also can't picture our lives without them.
