May 2011

By May we had started to get our routine down.  Daddy was back at work, so the three of us were on our own during the day.  You spent a lot of time napping in your bouncy seats or the swing and snuggling with me in our rocking chair.

You also started to wake up a little bit, and we did tummy time as much as possible.  You weren't very big fans of tummy time at first, so we used our boppies, and you liked that a little better.  You would lift your little heads up and look around at us.

You were one month old on my first Mother's Day.  Someday you can let me sleep and bring me breakfast in bed, but that first Mother's Day was all about taking care of you.

You were always giving me these little looks like, "really mom?":)

I was so happy because I had the two most amazing Mother's Day presents ever: the two of you.

You had gained enough weight that we were able to wean off of the supplemental feedings.  That helped free up some time, but we still spent a lot of time in the rocking chair nursing.  Daddy kept my water pitcher stocked at all times so I would stay hydrated for you.  You started to get some cute little baby chub, and you also started to outgrow your newborn clothes.  I cried when I had to start packing up your clothes.  You were growing so fast!

You both started smiling this month, which was the most amazing thing ever.  Harper was the first to smile, but soon you were both gracing us with your beautiful smiles.

While we were going really well, taking care of the two of you on my own was hard work.  You were usually really happy in the mornings, but in the afternoon you would get a little fussy.  I usually ended up holding both of you in the rocker or on the floor until Daddy came home to take one of you.  You were still staying up pretty late at night and getting up every 3-4 hours, so we were still pretty tired.

Daddy had to go to Germany for a week in May, and I wasn't quite ready to be on my own all day and all night, so we had lots of people come help us out.  Aunt Brynne came and spent Monday and Tuesday with us.  We took you out to lunch for the very first time.  We went to Panera, and you were perfect little angels.

We also took you to the store.  We made quite an impression every time we took you out in public (actually, we still make quite an impression).  People always wanted to see you, ask me questions about you, and tell me how beautiful you were.

Auntie Hillary came and stayed with us on Wednesday night.  She was so excited to get to snuggle with the two of you!

Grandma and Grandpa came into town on Thursday and we had a hard time getting them to put the two of you down.

You really enjoyed napping on Grandpa.

Grandma and Grandpa took some naps too!

You started to play under your activity center.  You liked to bat at Freddy the Firefly and the "hotdog".

You were getting so strong that you started to break out of your swaddles.  Grandma always worried that we wrapped you up too tightly, but you seemed to like it, and you would get out no matter what.

We also continued with our almost daily photo shoots.  I think these were my favorite outfits for during your first year.  I bought them before you were even born, and you looked so adorable in them.  Even though you would give us smiles from time to time, you were a little afraid of the camera.  You weren't quite sure what was happening every time my face disappeared behind it.

You were such sweet little girls.  If you were fussy, we could usually calm you down just by holding you.  Every once in a while you made us walk around with you, but not too frequently.  You loved to be close to us, and we loved snuggling our sweet babies.
