Since the girls are so young, they were scheduled for early in the morning. We weren't allowed to give them anything to eat after midnight. Since they are used to eating as soon as they wake up, we got them out of bed at about 11:45 to feed them before the cut-off. We figured that might help with fussiness in the morning. We had to be at the surgery center by 6:45 am, so we used the time change to our benefit and let the girls sleep right until we had to leave. We left them in their pj's and moved them right to their car seats.
When we got to the surgery center, they were very curious about the new place, and weren't upset at all. There were toys in the waiting room, and Harper had a blast walking all over with one of the push toys. She was giggling away.
We got called back to the waiting room, and we put the girls in their little hospital gown pj's. I pulled out my phone and took a picture:)
Harper
Tannah
Harper was up first, so the nurse took her vitals and gave her a mixture of Tylenol and versid. The versid made her a little goofy and relaxed. Harper is always such a big girl when we go to the doctor. She gets a worried little look on her face, but she generally lets the doctor examine her without complaint (unlike her sister, who screams if a nurse looks at her for too long). The anesthesiologist came and explained the process. The girls were given a little gas to put them to sleep for the procedure. The ENT came and talked to us, and then the anesthesiologist and the nurse came and took Harper.
We went through the same procedure with Tannah (who was not at all pleased when the anesthesiologist listened to her heart and lungs). However, after she got her versid, she went through a goofy phase and then a dazed phase. She then let the nurse listen to her heart with no complaint.
The ENT came to report that Harper was done. Both of her little ears were infected, so we got ear drops to treat them (we no longer have to use oral antibiotics!). The anesthesiologist and the nurse came back and told us that they were fighting over who got to hold the girls. The anesthesiologist got to carry Harper, so the nurse got to carry Tannah. As soon as they took Tannah, Harper was ready for us to meet her in the recovery room.
It was about 8:15 by this time, and Harper was a hungry little girl. She drank her bottle and her sister's. Luckily, we were able to get some more milk so Tannah had some as well. Harper was pretty feisty for about 30 minutes, but Tannah was pretty calm when she was done. One of her ears was infected, so she got ear drops as well.
We got the girls dressed, and took them home. They both slept for about two hours, and woke up happy little babies. I took the day off of work, and I got to spend it playing with my sweeties.
They do not like getting their ear drops. Harper's pretty calm about it, but you can tell she doesn't enjoy it. Tannah hates it:( Tannah's cheek got a little irritated from the tape used during surgery, but other than that, both girls are doing great!
